We’re Brisk, Baby.
Written by Mekanism at 4:32 pm • • 3 Commentsawesomeness, content, digital

We’ll never say that again. Sorry. We just needed a title for the post. You would have done it, too.

So remember those Brisk Iced Tea ads for Pepsi brand Lipton back in the day that had people like Rocky boxing it up and then telling you how Brisk that was, baby?

They did too. And wanted to update the campaign. And that’s when we were kind of excited at the idea of doing it for them. Because when someone says “remember that animated Rocky spot we did..”, you cut them off and say, “YES WE’LL DO IT.”

We did our best at bringing some new life into the brand, and the first shot at that was doing what anybody else would do: get a badass tattooed guy to tell an aggressively abridged version of a the film he was in. But, no really: Danny Trejo actually did it. And Machete actually came across really well when told in a Brisk manner.

It’s probably because every time he says, “and then I wash my hands,” it’s really funny.

No but seriously, modernizing the campaign for Pepsi has been a friggin’ blast. They’ve been super receptive to letting us make it look fresh again. You know, “Mekanism”-y. And we like how that looks. For good measure, we threw in a Facebook app that allows users to tell their own Brisk story for a chance to get animated. Because we feel like people are really great storytellers.

So here’s the fanboy part.

We’re on Twitter the other day. Hanging out, being nerds. When we see that someone tweeted at us.

Robert effing Rodriguez.

I mean. The internet is awesome. Humbled isn’t a good enough statement.

Then we got sent this video.

So, it’s been a pretty great few weeks. All we need to do now is get a personalized video from Rush, and I think we’ll be set.

Thanks to anyone who’s participated, watched the video, had a Brisk Iced Tea…basically: thanks to all who have made this whole thing as fun as it’s been.

More to come on the other people we did stuff with on the campaign . Hint: they’re amazing.

Basically? S is gonna get R really soon.

Stay tuned.

Now Trending at Mekanism (Jan 18th – Jan 21st)
Written by Mekanism at 12:17 pm • • 1 Commentawesomeness, content, digital,

You know what’s trending on the internet this week?

The apocalypse. Look it up.

Has there been anything more exciting than this in years? And by exciting I mean “horrific.”

No but seriously, if I have to read one more thing about how birds are dying and there’s going to be a giant tsunami in California soon…

Well, I don’t want to. That’s kind of the point. Because if the world is ending in 2012, can we just take 2011 to enjoy useless meme’s in the meantime? (I didn’t make the in the memetime joke no matter how easy and horrible it was but OH GOD did I want to)

So here are videos about everything but the world ending. And this is everything you should have enjoyed this week but didn’t have the time to.

Here’s what’s trending at Mekanism this week.

Ryan Lee (@owlsquid): Cat Lassie

You can always count on Ryan to find something mildly frightening and also outrageously inappropriately hilarious. I don’t know why it’s funny that a kid will presumably not live because of his heartless cat. But. It is.

Elijah Bilotta (@FrodoBKK): Pale Kid Raps Fast

Nerdy? Yes. Kind of amazing? Correct. “You go baby work that crib, work that bib…”

Evan Romano (@ROMSKIII): Bart Scott Is Happy That He Won. Really Happy.

You don’t have to like sports to realize how amazing this is. How is this a real person? How is this not a scripted wrestling promo video? How terrifying would it be to know that this guy’s job is to run at you and hit you until you hurt?

Chin Lu (@ChinHuaLu): Peach And Zelda Catch Up

On that note, you don’t even have to like video games THAT much to get this. If you ever played Zelda or Mario Bros., this is borderline incredible.

Drew Hoolhorst (@drewber): Very Mary Kate

This is the best thing I’ve seen on the internet since “the last time I said this is the best thing I’ve ever seen on the internet.” But I mean.

She gets better every week.

See you all next Friday.

Now Trending at Mekanism (Jan 10th – Jan 14th)
Written by Mekanism at 12:49 pm • • 1 Commentawesomeness, content, digital,

Man, it was a struggle to get the social media department to participate in a meaningful way today for this post.

For the most part, the email chain requesting videos REGARDING what to post on Trending today would be almost funnier to post.

But…if you simply go through the selections, I think it will become weird: we work with some weird people.

Great people. But.

Weird, weird people…

Here’s what’s trending at Mekanism this week.

Ryan Lee (@owlsquid): Heinz Automato 2

Because there is nothing not cool about this. Nothing. If you don’t like robots, ketchup, or robots and ketchup, you’re fired from life.

Natira Suchoknand (@natirasu): Floating Paint

Proving once again that anything in slow motion…(anything)…looks cool.

Christine Ngo (@ChristineNgo): Whale Cat.

Christine asked me to post this. I don’t know what else to say. I mean. I promise, she’s really REALLY smart. And. Yeah.

Chin Lu (@ChinHuaLu): Bangable Dudes in History

This website is clever, witty, and proves that people on the internet have way…WAY too much time. Because you’d have to actually be smart to write this stuff. Is it sad? Hilarious? Both? I have no idea. But it’s pretty good.

Daisy Cheng (@daise): Vagina Power and Penis Power

You know? Daisy scores big for bringing this one out. I mean…why is this a video? Who is viewing it and taking it seriously? Hopefully…you. Hopefully YOU are now, internet reader.

Drew Hoolhorst (@drewber): Alan. Alan. Alan.

I’m sorry. This just hasn’t gotten old yet. Bravo, british people…for understanding that your voices are ridiculous and should be attached to ridiculous animals. Thank you for really finally acknowledging it.

I could watch this video 1,783 times and still snort laughing.

See you all next Friday.
